Hazard

The plug at the end of the power cord of the chain saw and the edger may have exposed copper wires, presenting a possible electrocution hazard to consumers.

Remedy

Consumers should stop using the recalled chainsaws and edgers immediately and return them to the Sears store where purchased, for a replacement.

Sears retail and hardware stores sold the electric chain saws and edgers from August 15, 2001 through August 30, 2001.

Full Recall Description

Both the Sears Craftsman 14" electric chainsaw, model number 358.34114, and the Sears Craftsman electric grass edger, model number 358.79650, are included in this recall. The chain saw date code label can be found on the back of the motor housing in the lower left corner of the warning label and follows the words "Serial No." Only chainsaws with the date code 01227, 01228, 01229, 01230, 01231, 01232, 01233, 01234, 01235 are included in this recall. The edger date code label is located on the warning label on the shaft and follows the words "Serial No.," which is near the UL logo. Only electric edgers with the date code 01234 or 01235 are included in the recall.
