Hazard

A component inside the adapters can overheat, posing a risk of fire or electrical shock.

Remedy

Consumers should unplug the AC adapter from the electrical outlet and stop using the product immediately. Contact Cables To Go for information on receiving a free replacement unit.

Reported Injuries

Cables To Go has received five reports of adapters overheating, including one report of the carpet beneath the adapter being damaged. No injuries have been reported.

Sold At

The Cables to Go Web site, other Web retailers and computer and electronics stores nationwide, from May 24, 2004 through February 21, 2005, for about $55.

The recall involves AC power adapters sold with Go!Data 3.5-inch IDE external hard drive enclosures. The AC adapters were sold only with the drive enclosures. "PRiver" or "MoreTec" is written on the enclosures.
